Finnich Steadings HistoryFinnich Steading lies on ancient lands. Records go back to the 14th century when the ground belonged to a relation of the Earl of Lennox called "Malice" which is the origin of the estate's name of Finnich Malise. The Finnich being the stream which runs close by. In 1806 William Leckie, a Glasgow merchant inherited the property and built the steading and rebuilt the main house. The red stone steading are in classic style around a large courtyard. The recent development has faithfully retained the main features of these fine buildings in the most sympathetic way. The park around the cottages consists of 220 acres of old woodland and grazing pasture. In May and June the woods and paths are lined with Rhododendrons giving a blaze of vivid colours. |
