Its patio has two wood-fired hot tubs, making it ideal for small families or two couples holidaying together. Dog-friendly.

Birch is the sociable heart of the steading — a two-storey cottage where the ground floor flows from a comfortable living area into a modern L-shaped kitchen and dining space, perfect for long, unhurried dinners. Upstairs, a bedroom with a king-size bed and a twin room sit either side of a modern shower bathroom, sleeping up to four.

Step out onto the patio and two wood-fired hot tubs wait beneath the open sky — room enough to soak together as the woodsmoke drifts and the evening settles over the fields.

Are there castles to visit?

Plenty within an hour: Doune Castle, a favourite with Outlander fans; the mighty Stirling Castle; and the romantic ruin of Buchanan Castle just over in Drymen.
